September is Hispanic Heritage Month!


Spanish is becoming an increasingly prevalent language in the United States.  Why not check out one of our bi-lingual books to share with the kids, a Spanish-English picture dictionary, or an excellent children's book by a Hispanic author?

Happy Birthday....

Roald Dahl!  One of my all-time favorite authors.  If you aren't familiar, he's the genius behind Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach and Fantastic Mr. Fox.  Kids love him and you will, too!  Some of my favorites are Mathilda, The Twits and George's Marvelous Medicine.  Stop by the Children's Department and I'll tell you more about them!

Today is National Grandparents Day.  Why not have your little write a special letter to one of their favorite people, or ask them what their favorite book was as a child!

Jack Prelutsky!  He's one of my favorite children's poets, and kids LOVE his stuff!  He's silly and quirky.  Here's an excerpt from "Be Glad Your Nose Is On Your Face:"

Be glad your nose is on your face,

not pasted on some other place,

for if it were where it is not,

you might dislike your nose a lot.

Imagine if your precious nose

were sandwiched in between your toes,

that clearly would not be a treat,

for you'd be forced to smell your feet.

Did you know...

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month!  Hopefully you already have this all-important piece of plastic, but just in case you don't, it's a piece of cake to get!  Just stop by the library with a picture ID and you'll receive your card right away.  Don't forget to tell your friends and family and bring the little one into for their first card as soon as they turn 3!
